Am I an Alcoholic?

Am I an Alcoholic?

My name Greg and I’m an Alcoholic. That’s the most important thing I say… because

I must remember that I am a REAL Alcoholic:

1. I have an obsession of the mind, it lies to me at various times, and tells me I can take the 1st drink.

2. I have an allergy of the body, and once I take the 1st drink, I can’t always control the amount I drink.

3. I am part of a small group of people, that have a significantly different response to a couple of drinks; it makes Everything Alright, almost immediately. It brings a sense of “ease and comfort”.

4. I can have nothing between me and God, no addiction, no substitute like over-indulgence in anything, no wrong attitude of self, selfishness, pride, lying, fear or worry.

5. Treatment centers don’t have the answer, because if they did, they would send out recovered people, but they don’t. Churches don’t have the answer, or they would be turning out recovered people. They send out sober people, who, if they are like me, they will always eventually begin to drink again, because the pain of life becomes greater than the pain of drinking.

6. If ANYONE suggests you can stay sober without God and the Steps, run! They may kill you with such a suggestion. They are not likely one of us.

7. If ANYONE suggests you can stay sober with God or faith or church only, run! They may kill you with such a belief. They are not likely one of us.

8. I need God and the Steps daily!
